Longing for Freedom {Week 2, Day 1}

September 21, 2020
“40 Days” by Proverbs 31 Ministries | P31 OBS Study

Hey there, and welcome to Week 2! My name is Stacy Lowe, and I’ll be here leading you on the blog this week. I’m excited to dig in, so let’s get straight to it!

This Week’s Longing:
Just over six months ago, COVID-19 brought life as I knew it to a screeching halt. I couldn’t leave home for work, I couldn’t leave home for church, and all the plans I thought I had were canceled. I imagine your experience was similar.

Being a homebody, my home is my safe haven, a place I look forward to getting back to each day. Knowing that, you would think being told to stay home would feel like a gift, but truthfully? It felt like a punishment. I love being home, but only when it’s coupled with the freedom to leave.

This longing for freedom is nothing new. In fact, it was as real and present back in biblical times as it is today. God wants His people to be free, but as we’ll see this week, that freedom we long for doesn’t always come packaged the way we would imagine.

This Week’s Video:
This week, P31 OBS Manager Kendra Schwarz and Hannah Schindler from the First 5 team are back! They're joined by Wendy Blight, who’s not only our Biblical Content Specialist, but one of the authors of our 40 Days Study Guide. She’s here to share with us some of the many things Jesus offers us freedom from. Check it out!

Here are instructions for accessing closed captioning and the transcripts.

As you begin your week, take a look at our Study at a Glance for a sneak peek of what we’ll be tackling together over the next few days. Are you ready?

Today we're completing:

Let’s do this!

In this week’s video, Wendy shares several things Jesus offers us freedom from: captivity and control of sin, penalty of sin, and shame. Which of those do you most long for freedom from and why?
