Longing for Rescue {Week 4, Day 1}

October 5, 2020
“40 Days” by Proverbs 31 Ministries | P31 OBS Study

Hey there!

I’m Alicia Hunter, and I’m so glad you are here! Can you believe we are in the last week of the first half of our study? That means we are finishing up the Old Testament this week, and that’s a huge accomplishment. Let’s get started.

This Week’s Longing:
Do you ever have random thoughts that swell up into an absolute catastrophe in your mind? Sometimes I’m guilty of allowing a sudden negative thought to increase into a worst-case scenario. For instance, the phone could ring while my teenage driver is gone, and I’m immediately convinced it’s terrible news. Or my friend or co-worker doesn’t respond to a message, and suddenly I imagine everything is ruined and the relationship is over because “I’ve done something wrong.”

Other times, though, I’ve found myself right in the middle of a real life “worst-case scenario,” some near disaster I can’t control, and I just freeze because I don’t want to believe it’s actually happening. I want to ignore it and hope it will go away on its own. Those are the times I long for God to swoop in and fix everything around me.

Do you relate to scenarios like these?

Thankfully, our God is with us in every single situation — things we worry about and things that stop us right in our tracks. In fact, He promises to never leave us. We will learn this week that we often look for rescue in the tangible things of life, whether we’re in the middle of a worst-case scenario or in one of those middle-of-the-day crises that seem to happen most days. We will see that only God can truly rescue us. And, we will discover that God’s people have always been longing for rescue.

This Week’s Video:
Hosts Hannah and Kendra join us this week with a special guest, Senior Director of OBS and First 5 Melissa Taylor. Listen as Melissa gives us something very practical to focus on when we need rescue.

In case you would like them, here are instructions for accessing closed captioning and the transcripts.

Today we are completing:

Now it’s time to get started,

Alicia

From what in your life are you longing for rescue? Let’s start the week by sharing a prayer in the comments asking God to open our hearts and minds this week as we begin our study.
