Longing for Identity {Week 7, Day 1}

October 26, 2020
“40 Days” by Proverbs 31 Ministries | P31 OBS Study

Hello, sisters!

It’s so good to be back with you again! You’ve made it to Week 7 (Day 31). What an awesome accomplishment! This study has been unlike any other, and you have shifted and pivoted right along with us. I pray it has been exactly what you’ve needed thus far.

This Week’s Longing:
So much has happened in our lives recently, I often feel like I don’t recognize myself anymore. Everything looks and feels so different, including me! The longing for identity was my number one pain point coming into this study. Get this: I went to check your feedback from Foundations Week, and found it was number two on your list!

Some of us may have struggled with an identity crisis long before the pandemic hit, and some are currently struggling. And friends, that is okay. In the past, we’ve identified ourselves by what we own or what we do. We’ve even reduced our identities to the sum total of our best or worst moments. However, this week, we will discover together how to meet our longing for identity in Christ and His truth about who we are.

This Week’s Video:
Haven’t you been learning a lot from the Monday videos? I sure have! Kendra, Hannah and Joel are back with another great message for us. If you’ve ever wondered about the differences between some of the ethnic groups of the Bible, you’ll learn today! And, you’ll find a wonderful affirmation to get you going when it comes to the foundation of your identity!

Short on time or need/want an alternate way to engage with the video content? We’ve got you covered. Here are the instructions for closed captioning or viewing the video transcripts.

This Week’s Resources:
I’m ready to dive into Week 7 — how about you? Here’s the Study at a Glance resource to help us plan our week. Then, let’s grab our Bible and Study Guide and fill up!

Today’s Readings:

  • Week 7, Introduction and Day 1
  • Acts 7

It’s going to be a great week, y’all. I can’t wait to begin! God’s Word always accomplishes what He sets it out to do, and this week will be no different. Also, tomorrow my friend and contributor Brandy Patton will be back with us!

Earlier, I mentioned a few ways we perceive our identity. In our Study Guide (p. 149), we are warned against all five of these lies of identity. Which one do you struggle with most and why?
      - I am what I have.
      - I am what I do.
      - I am what other people say or think of me.
      - I am nothing more than my worst moment.
      - I am nothing less than my best moment.
