Moving to the Rhythm of Grace {Week 1}

June 30, 2021
“Get Out of Your Head” by Jennie Allen | P31 OBS Study BSC

Hi there, and welcome to Day 3 of Get Out of Your Head! So far this week, author Jennie Allen has reminded us we have an enemy who just loves to whisper untruths in our ears and get us off-track with God’s plans for our lives. But we’re not left alone in the fight.

Before traveling any deeper in study, I first want to pause for just a moment to share a little encouragement with you. It comes from a verse that has previously left me scratching my head just a bit:

“The LORD your God is in your midst,
     a mighty one who will save;
he will rejoice over you with gladness;
     he will quiet you by his love;
he will exult over you with loud singing.”
(Zephaniah 3:17, ESV)

To unpack this a bit, let’s take a look at how Google defines a couple of these words:

Rejoice: feel or show great joy or delight.

Exult: feel or show triumphant elation or jubilation.

So according to this verse, God is in our midst, singing and expressing His uncontainable love and excitement over me! Over you! That alone is worth celebrating! But remember I said it left me feeling a little confused? Because while "head knowledge" is great, I wondered: What does this mean for us?

Here’s where it gets so cool: For weeks now in church, I’ve been struck with the observation of how even the quietest congregants who never open their mouths to join in praise and worship still can’t help but sway to the rhythm of the music surrounding them. It’s just how God wired our bodies and minds. And that’s when it hit me: THIS is the personal application I’d been looking for!

If God is constantly in our midst, singing over us, it stands to reason that the more we tune in and listen to His voice, the more we’ll naturally start moving to the rhythm of His words and His thoughts towards us of JOY and LOVE and DELIGHT rather than the enemy’s lies. Who could use more of that in their lives? I know I sure could!

Take some time today to pull your mind away from the negativity and spiraling thoughts, and tune in to what God is speaking and singing all around you. He’s there, and He’s waiting!
