Getting To Where We Want To Go

September 29, 2017

Hey! You've made it to the end of Week 2! #Celebrate!

In our last study blog post, we talked about being willing to step up to the plate and be intentional with our lives. But what's next?

Two words: small steps.

Can I be real here, though? I’m not the biggest fan of small steps.

When I was a little girl, my mom had some extra fabric which she gave me, along with a needle and thread, to make a dress for my doll. I carefully cut it out and held the front and back together to begin stitching. Only instead of a series of tiny stitches like my mom had shown me, I thought I could save time by making GIANT stitches instead, each one 2-3 inches long.

I’m sure you can imagine how that turned out. Not. Good.

You see, trying to bypass the process with big steps doesn’t always get us where we intend to go. In fact, it’s often the little steps, those things we don’t always get the “why” of, that eventually lead us to great places.

She'e Still There

That’s why I love this quote from Chrystal Evans Hurst in Chapter 11 of She’s Still There:

"The good news is you don’t have to know where the trail leads in order to follow it."

Good news indeed! Especially when coupled with our Verse of the Week:

The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Psalm 37:23 (NLT)

She'e Still There

With the Lord directing our steps, we can walk boldly forward, taking it one step at a time, because while WE may not know where those steps are taking us, He has it all figured out! And while in the midst of taking those small steps today, we can draw faith by looking back on small steps from the past that God used to lead us to great things!

You know, I think I could learn to love these small steps after all.

Reflect and Respond:

Where have small steps led you in the past? What's a small step God is asking you to take today?
