Tossing Rejection with Uninvited OBS

September 29, 2017

It’s the start of Week 5! Can you believe it? One thing’s for sure: I’m thrilled to be starting this week with you!

In the #UninvitedBook reading this week, we’re going to be looking at “tossing” rejection and trading it for truth. This idea of “tossing” reminded me of the childhood game “Hot Potato.” Ever played it?

If not, here’s the main idea: While the music plays, all players gather around in a circle to “toss” an object around that represents a “hot potato.” The goal is to toss it quickly, like it’s hot, so you’re not the one left holding it when the music stops.

Rejection can feel a lot like a “hot potato.” When it’s passed on to us by others, we don’t want to be left stuck with it. We want to toss it. Right?

But how can we toss rejection? This week’s verse holds one key:

“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever” (Psalm 73:26, NIV).

Did you see it? But GOD. HE is our strength to help toss rejection! WOW! I love our Verse of the Week! Don’t you?

And today’s video holds another key. Lysa TerKeurst is back with us to help untangle the lies of rejection and to challenge us to speak truth. So helpful for learning how to toss rejection like a hot potato! Amen?

Reflect and Respond:

Observe — In today’s video, I loved when Nicki Koziarz said: “Stay Strong. Finish Strong.” Simple, yet powerful words to catch and hold onto for Week 5! What will you do to stay and finish strong this week?
Bible — Write Psalm 73:26 in your OBS Journal.Cross out “my flesh” and “my heart.” Underline “BUT GOD is my strength.” Now write this phrase: “With God as my strength, I will NOT fail to toss rejection! I will win!”
Stretch — This week, pay close attention to those feelings of rejection. When they arise, why not journal those feelings and circumstances and “toss” them to God in prayer?
