A Call to Cultivate Community

November 12, 2020
P31 OBS Study | Write The Word

Hello! I'm Alicia Hunter, a study leader for P31 OBS. While I won't be leading you for our upcoming study, I did want to drop by to share something on my heart.

I recently chatted with friends at work about COVID-19 and “pandemic fatigue.” As educators, we talked specifically about the need to encourage and engage our students who feel lonely and isolated.

Those feelings are not just an issue in our schools, are they? For months, most of us have lived in some form of quarantine, which can be difficult!

Friends, we need each other. We are designed for relationships. While this year has looked so different, we can — we must — find a way to help each other.

We have a call to cultivate community.

What’s that mean, exactly? Let’s look at the Google definitions.

  • Call: an appeal or need for something to happen or be done.
  • Cultivate: to prepare or develop a quality, sentiment, or skill.

In other words, we have a need to develop community in our lives!

To help with that, here are the community options for this study:

Blog Comment Section – This is a perfect place to start cultivating community! Our study takes place here, and it’s open to everyone. Each Monday, Wednesday and Friday (during the study), there’s a new opportunity to interact! Answer the Let’s Chat questions, then read and respond to others’ comments. Your study leaders and a team of volunteers are waiting to connect!

(Note: We use Disqus as our commenting system on the blog. Have you set up your account? If not, we invite you to try it to enhance your community experience.)

Facebook Community Group – If you have a little more time and want to go deeper, this option might interest you. This large, private group is open to any woman age 18 or older. You’ll have the chance to develop meaningful connections and grow personally as you engage with others. There's also a team of leaders ready to walk alongside you!

Facebook Small Groups – In addition to being a study leader, I’m also a small group leader. These private groups help cultivate a deeper, personal connection through discussion and encouragement. Each group includes about 20 women and a trained leader, and are open to any woman 18 or older. But there’s limited space, and they fill up quickly, so don’t delay!

Bible Study Live at the Table (BSLATT) – Did you know we have a free resource called the Bible Study Companion to help you take your study deeper? It will be provided in our Week 1 Wednesday study blog. Then, on Thursdays (during the study), you’re invited to join us on our Facebook page at 8 p.m. ET to dig in and discuss these lessons LIVE as a community!

We look forward to cultivating community with you,

Alicia
