We All Need Direction {Week 2}

December 7, 2020

Happy Week 2! My name is Kendra, and I have the honor of leading you through Week 2 of our Cultivate Worship study — yay! Oh, how I wish we were sitting together and we could swap insights and stories about what we’re learning.

Let’s play pretend for a minute. Picture you and me in your favorite coffee shop, our mugs filled with something yummy, journals open and Bibles sitting beside us. I’d, of course, let you share what you’re learning, and once we talked about what God is revealing to you in our study, I’d share this:

In our journal on page 26, the verse for the day is Matthew 2:9-11. As I wrote out the verse, I immediately got excited because they are about the Christmas story. Now, I don’t know about you, but I’m a Christmas fanatic. Or as all the Gen-Zers say it, I “stan” Christmas, which ultimately means I’m a fan of Christmas.

When I read, “And behold the star that they had seen when it rose went before them,” I stopped, went back, and read it again. And again. Then something hit me. Even the wisest men and wealthiest of kings need direction of where to go next.

And just like them, we do too.

While we may not have a brightly burning star above us to direct us on what to do, we have something better — Jesus. In just a few short days, we get to celebrate the birth of our ultimate Savior, Jesus Christ. And that, my friends, is worthy of all our worship.

Enough from me. It’s time to hear from the president of Cultivate What Matters, Lara Casey! She has a sweet reminder for us tucked into our conversation that helped free my “rule-following self” right up.

Here are instructions for accessing closed-captioning and the transcripts.

Phew! I’m so grateful Lara helped me see that true worship is really all about God and proclaiming who He is. I needed that reminder. As I fold another load of laundry, I’m going to put her advice into practice.

Alright! You know what to do. Go ahead and crank up your favorite worship song from our Cultivate Worship playlist and open up your journal to page 26. I look forward to hearing what stands out to you in the comment section! And if you need a reminder of all that’s going on for Week 2, you can look at the Study at a Glance.

STUDY AT A GLANCE

Micca Campbell, our Bible Study Companion leader this week, will join us on the blog Wednesday to teach us about how God reveals Himself to us before He ever asks us to do anything (ah-hem, like follow a star).

Have a great week of study!

Let’s Chat!

It’s a new week, which means we have a fresh start and clean slate. What is your word for today and why? For me, it’s “remember” because I tend to lose sight of all the good God has placed in front of me.
