“Let the one who is wise heed these things and ponder the loving deeds of the LORD.” Psalm 107:43 (NIV)

Recently, I’ve noticed how quickly I often react to a situation before I even think. A tense conversation tightens my chest. An unexpected email brings a wave of anxiety. A small disappointment sends my mind spinning with familiar stories of fear or frustration.

So much of life unfolds in these small, ordinary moments, yet I notice how easily I can get swept along, barely aware of what’s happening inside me. For all of us, these moments may seem small, but they shape the way we live, respond, and see the world around us.

Many of us long to respond with grace rather than defensiveness, with peace rather than panic, with trust rather than control. But if we're honest, our desire to respond wisely can easily turn into striving.

We ask God to heal our reactions and reshape our patterns, but somewhere along the way, we begin to live as though the whole process depends on us. We forget that God is at work within us.

That's when we need to remember the simple but profound invitation of Psalm 107:43: “Let the one who is wise heed these things and ponder the loving deeds of the LORD.”

Scripture suggests wisdom isn’t primarily about trying harder. It’s about pondering — paying attention, listening carefully, and lingering long enough to notice what God has already done and what He is doing right now.

Pondering is not merely remembering; it is reflective, relational, and slow. To ponder is to stay present with God, focusing on the quiet provision we almost missed, the comfort sent through a friend, the often unseen ways He sustains us when life feels heavy.

So many ordinary situations, including inconveniences and disappointments, invite us into this kind of attentiveness. It’s easy to react instinctively, get defensive, withdraw, or move on. But when we pause to heed and ponder wisely — to pay attention — we begin to see God’s loving presence in the very places that feel uncomfortable or hard.

What if spiritual transformation begins with attention?

It means noticing what is happening right now: the tension in our shoulders, the sharpness in our tone, the stories our minds are telling. Without the sacred practice of attention, we tend to live inside our reactions. With attention, we can begin to see our behaviors in a new way.

Of course, attention alone isn’t enough. The beauty is allowing God’s love to meet us where we are: Lord, here’s what’s happening in me. Show me how You are loving me here.

Today, whatever moment you face — frustration, anxiety, weariness, or joy — what might it look like to heed and ponder? To slow down and ask, Lord, where are You in this moment? To look for His loving deeds, even here?

Transformation begins not in anxious striving but in quiet, attentive communion with the One who is already present.

Dear God, teach me to heed Your words and ponder Your loving deeds in every moment. I want to walk wisely with You, noticing Your presence in every part of life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

OUR FAVORITE THINGS

When your thoughts are racing and nothing feels clear, you need something solid to hold on to. Because of you, women can find that in God’s Word. We’re working toward a $760,000 midyear goal, and a group of generous donors has already given $213,000. That means when you give today, your gift goes twice as far. Give today and help ensure truth reaches another woman before fear shapes her next step.

FOR DEEPER STUDY

Psalm 139:7-10, “Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there … even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast” (NIV).

In what moments do you tend to move through life without truly paying attention, and what might God want you to see if you slowed down?
