I’m glad you’re sticking with it! Today I want to take a little reflection time together. I hope you’ll do this with me.

• Re-read Genesis 1:31 and 3:6 (our Day 1 and 2 verses listed in the Study Guide).

Did you notice both use the word “good”? There’s a big difference between the two, though! In Genesis 1:31, it’s GOD who declared what was good, but in Genesis 3:6, it’s EVE who declared what was good. God never said the tree was good for food. He said NOT to eat it or they’d die (Genesis 2:17).

• Read Genesis 3:1-6.

While there are obvious red flags here, don’t miss this subtlety. Eve is talking to the serpent, not God. She didn’t go to God to chat this out! She processes her desire/longing with the enemy, which allows him to lead her astray from God’s Word.

Facepalm!

But here’s the thing: Who/what do you go to and believe when it comes to what is good for your life, particularly your purpose?

Ahhh. I confess I’m an “Eve” at times. This is why I regularly need this reminder from Wendy Blight in The Answers to Our Deepest Longings:

“We can believe the enemy or we can believe God” (p. 24).

Guys, we always have a choice — to go to and believe the world OR to go to and believe God’s Word. The enemy or God.

Yesterday, I brought up Genesis 2:18 and how it gives the good purpose God has for us to be in fellowship/relationship. Did you catch in our bookwork how the enemy’s purpose for tricking Eve was to separate her (and us) from that very purpose of fellowship/relationship, in this case with God?

Wow. Satan certainly is crafty, but he’s got nothing on God and His Word! To silence his lies, here are four simple practices (from page 17) to apply to God’s Word:

1. Treasure it.
2. Read it.
3. Study it.
4. Pray through it.

Adam and Eve may have believed the enemy, but by applying these four practices, we can believe God. In today’s homework, we look at someone who did believe God and the difference that made:

• Week 1, Day 3
• Genesis 6
