Listening Like Lydia {Week 8, Day 2}

November 3, 2020
“40 Days” by Proverbs 31 Ministries | P31 OBS Week 8 Verse

Friends, today's reading is filled with such encouragement! In it, we read about Paul's second missionary journey. The purpose for this journey was to check in on the people he met on his first trip. (Acts 15:36)

While traveling, Paul meets a woman, Lydia, whose actions change the course of her entire household!

One verse in this account includes a pivotal moment. Each time I read these words, I pray that God helps me listen like Lydia.

“One who heard us was Lydia, from the city of Thyatira, a seller of purple goods, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to pay attention to what was said by Paul.” (Acts 16:14, ESV)

I love praying Scripture like this one! It gives me confidence and strength. It also helps me incorporate or apply verses in a very personal way. This verse about Lydia is a great example. I want the Lord to open my heart so I can hear what He is saying to me because I know listening to God is crucial if I want to impact my family and the world around me. Just like Lydia.

Bible Study Tip! Pray God’s Word.

The process for praying Scripture is simple. I choose a verse (or part of a verse) and then rewrite it, inserting my name to make it personal.

Here’s what my prayer for this verse sounds like:

“Alicia, from the city of Berea, a mother and teacher, who is a worshiper of God. Lord, please open my heart and help me pay attention to what You have to say.”

Will you pray God’s Word?

Alicia
