Sowing and Growing What We Need

December 15, 2017

Hey! Nichole Stern joining you again from Manna Homestead.

Spring is in full bloom here and we’re tilling, planting and watering in hopes of reaping a bountiful harvest. But just like many of life’s assignments, this food-growing process doesn’t always go as planned. It takes time, and sometimes it’s hard to see it through to the end.

We’ve talked a lot about quitting in our #5HabitsBook study and this week, we’re looking at Habit Four of a Woman Who Doesn’t Quit:

She Gives Others What She Needs.

I don’t know about you, but my instinct is to hold tightly to what I need, not give it away.

But as Nicki Koziarz shares with us in Chapter 7 of 5 Habits of a Woman Who Doesn’t Quit,

“Emotional generosity is something we will always need to be sowing into our lives. It’s something we mature into. It won’t be instant. And it may take some time to grow.”

Truth is, I’m not known for my patience and I don’t always want to wait on things to grow. However, I do want to learn to be a woman God can count on, who commits to seeing things through, even if it means giving away what I need most.

How about you, friends? Will you join me? Yes?

GREAT!

Nicki’s Scripture-based direction in Chapter 7 is a perfect place to start becoming the woman who lives out Habit Four!

We can give others what we need by:

  • Not withholding good from others

“When it is in your power, don’t withhold good from the one it belongs to.” Proverbs 3:27 (HCSB)

  • Being generous with what we put out to this world

“Remember this: The person who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the person who sows generously will also reap generously.” 2 Corinthians 9:6 (HCSB)

  • Remembering giving always wins

“In everything I showed you that by working hard in this manner you must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” Acts 20:35 (NASB)

Let’s remember what Nicki says: “Giving others what we need is bravery and kindness mixed together.” Friend, I pray as we strive to be women who don’t quit, we’ll also be women known for giving others what we need, extending grace upon grace with bravery and kindness, pointing them to Jesus. Amen?

Reflect and Respond:

Observe — Who is someone you know who is emotionally generous? And how so? For me, it’s a mentor who is so full of grace, it pours out in all she does. She is a joy to be around!
Bible — In your P31 OBS Journal write down the following scriptures on emotional generosity. Which of these scriptures challenges you most?

Proverbs 3:27
2 Corinthians 9:6
Acts 20:35
Stretch — What steps will you take this week to be more emotionally generous? Share on social media using the hashtags #5HabitsBook #P31OBS #LiveItOut or #DontYouDareQuit.
