Happy Wednesday, friends!

Let’s take a quick little journey in our imagination, shall we?

Imagine your best day ever, your version of heaven on earth, if you will. What does it look like? What does it feel like? Who is there with you? Got that image in your head? Good.

Imagine getting to actually live that reality. You’d never want to leave, would you?

Now picture this: LITERAL heaven. Everything is beautiful and exactly as it should be. Jesus is there in His splendor and glory, enjoying eternal praise and worship. The majesty there is more than we could ever comprehend.

This isn’t just a figment of someone’s imagination, though. This is His REALITY.

Our wildest dreams of perfection pale in comparison to the reality Jesus was living, yet He chose to walk away from it all. He chose to humble Himself and be born on earth in the lowest of places to the most unassuming of people.

It doesn’t make sense, does it? Until you realize the truth pointed out by Max Lucado in Because of Bethlehem Chapter 10:

“He entered the world not to demand our allegiance but to display his affection.”

Jesus could’ve chosen to remain with His Father God. He could’ve chosen to stay surrounded by the adoration of the angels. He could’ve chosen to turn His back on us, which surely would’ve been easier. But He didn’t choose any of those things. He decided the perfection of heaven wasn’t worth it if we couldn’t be a part of it, too, so He chose us instead.

Let that truth settle in your heart …

He chose YOU. He chose ME.

Jesus gave up His best day ever so that we can one day have OURS. In heaven. With HIM. That’s how invaluable we are to Him!

And if He would go to such extraordinary lengths to express His love for us, it stands to reason His care and concern didn’t stop at the manger. It didn’t stop at the cross either. It carries over into every day of our lives, despite our failures and shortcomings. In fact, I’d dare say sometimes those mistakes we make are where He’s able to use us the most, if we’ll only entrust Him with our broken pieces.

Knowing all that, I have to believe there is a reason for our existence, each and every one of us. There is something still for us to do here. This Christmas season, may we hold onto that truth as we stand in awe at the wonder of the manger and the fathomless depths of love wrapped within it.
