Ready, Set, Choose {Week 3}

July 16, 2021

Hey there!

Ready to wrap up Week 3 with me? I hope you say yes! If you haven’t read as much as you wanted so far in Get Out of Your Head, I still hope you say yes! Why? Our community needs your voice.

We all have chaotic thought lives. We’re each going at the pace that fits our season of life. It’s OK if we’re on different pages in the book. What matters is that we continue to grow as God transforms our thoughts. So let’s dig in!

In this week’s chapters, author Jennie Allen shared with us two enemies of our minds, and new choices we can make to take them down. Those choices are:

  • I choose to be still with God.
  • I choose to be known.

Now let’s talk about that first choice. What distracts you from being still with God? For me, just about anything can, if I’m not careful. Work tasks. Other people’s problems. All things kids! Even expectations that I must be still with Him at a certain time of day and in a certain way.

But really think about it. Don’t we find time for people we do life with despite all that may distract us? We commit to enjoy each other as often as we can — whatever that may look like. This greeting card message Jennie read sums it up well: “We were together. I forget the rest.” Simply spending time with God is what counts. It’s in those moments where He can transform our thoughts.

Now let’s talk about the second choice. To be known, Jennie says we have to willingly be open and vulnerable with others. Just like in a community. Do you recognize God made you to be in community?

If you struggle with this, know that I’m right there with you. I love to help, but I don’t always ask for it myself as often as I should. God continues to teach me the value of having people in my life, though. In fact, have you noticed that inviting God and others into our lives keeps coming up as we study? Coincidence? I think not.

So are you ready to choose? You don’t have to wait, be perfect or know the next steps to take. You simply need to be willing to grab hold of new thoughts. I have a feeling doing so will be worth it!

Thank you for studying with me this week!
