Not Easy, but Worth It

January 27, 2023

Here we are at the end of our first study week! Are you ready to recap the week and watch Lysa’s first teaching video together? Me too! But first, I have a question for you: How’s the week gone for you so far?

Honest answers are welcome. My own was filled with tears, triggers and truth. It all just sort of welled up after I read the truth about good boundaries Lysa shares in those early chapters. Here’s what I learned:

Good boundaries:

  • Can’t be set without love (Page XV).
  • Help us love people in right and healthy ways (Page XVIII).
  • Allow love to stay safe and sustainable (Page XVIII).
  • Keep us from living in a hurtful state (Page XX).
  • Help us protect the right kind of love (Page XX),protect ourselves for love (Page 17),and protect intimacy (Page 23).
  • Are not just a good idea but a God idea (Page 7).

How powerful!

Then in Chapter 2, Lysa says:

“Like God, we must require from people the responsibility necessary to grant the amount of access we allow them to have in our lives.”

What does that mean, though? What does it look like in real life? Lysa discusses this very topic in this Session 1 teaching video. Let’s watch it together:

Phew! We’ve covered a lot this week. No doubt it’ll take time to process what you’re learning. But know this: You’re in the right place! Even Lysa admits on Page 8 that “setting and keeping healthy boundaries won’t always be easy.” But as we shall see by the end of this study, doing so will be worth it!

Let’s Pray!

Here’s your weekly prayer prompt: Ask Jesus to reveal which relationship you should work to set boundaries in first. Something like, “Heavenly Father, please help me know which relationship I should focus on as I begin to set healthy boundaries. It can be overwhelming, but with Your help and direction, I know it can be done.”
