There Is Good in Goodbyes

February 20, 2023

Hi, friend. It’s Alicia back with you for Week 5 of Good Boundaries and Goodbyes.

As your Bible study leader and friend, I want to let you know that this week, like others in the past, we’re being asked to think through hard, maybe even uncomfortable, questions. It’s OK if you’re still pondering a few of those hard things. I’m so thankful you are sticking with us. Be patient and give yourself a little grace as God guides you.

I’m working on that myself. In my journal one day last week, I simply wrote:

God, I’m going to need some time and grace. Please help me.

As we read Chapters 10 and 11, I know I’ll need more of that grace because it’s here that Lysa talks about goodbyes, and those can be hard. In Chapter 10, though, we’ll see that “for good to happen, goodbyes have to happen first.”

My marriage is living proof of these words. You see, it wasn't until my husband and I both said hard goodbyes to past brokenness and pain that God was able to heal us and bring us together. I'm now excited to read the rest of Chapter 10 with you and learn to think about other hard goodbyes in the same way.

Friend, I’m ready to hear more about the good work God is doing in your life, too, as we get the chance to set boundaries and think about goodbyes we’ve said. Consider this a virtual hug, and know that I’m praying for you as God continues to work in your life!

This week, let’s learn how a goodbye can be good ...

What is one good thing you've seen from a goodbye? Whether that be more peace in your heart, an open door to a new relationship, etc.
