Hurrying to Hope {Week 4}

December 8, 2023

Dear friend,

It was a dark night a couple of thousand years ago when an angel appeared to a group of shepherds in Bethlehem with the good news their souls had always longed for: The Savior of the world had been born! Not only that, they were invited to go and see for themselves.

Before that moment, it had been just another long, lonely night protecting their sheep from any enemies lurking in the shadows. But now, they had a decision to make: They could stick with what they had always known, or they could accept the invitation to go and see for themselves this incredible gift of hope in a manger.

Luke tells us that not only did they choose to go, but they “hurried to the village” (Luke 2:16, NLT) to see what God had done.

And it’s here I stop to wonder: When I need hope, do I hurry to Jesus too? Or do I resign myself to the heaviness of the ordinary?

What about you?

You see, it wasn’t enough for the shepherds just to hear about this hope; they needed to experience it for themselves, and the only way they could do that was to leave their flock behind for a face-to-face encounter with Jesus. And that’s just what they did.

In the midst of the darkness, they met the Light of the world, and it changed everything.

Let’s take a cue from the shepherds and hurry to hope today. In our own darkness, let’s hurry to Jesus.

Praying for you,

Stacy
