When Trust Isn’t Tangible

September 20, 2017

Welcome! This is Angela Diemer, joining you for the first time as a study leader, from Battle Creek, Mich. Being a wife and a mom of all boys, I can safely say there isn’t a lot of girl talk happening in my home. So I’m excited for my girl time here with all of you!

Are you ready to wrap up Week 2 with Chapter 5? #MeToo!

I love how relatable Lysa TerKeurst is! I’ve never been on a ropes course in the woods, but when I read about her ropes course story, I felt like I was right there with her.

I’m the type who likes to know all the “what ifs” before I move forward — who wants things to make sense and line up. Like Lysa shared about her experience jumping from that platform to a rope hanging in the air, I can struggle to trust.

Trust. We can’t touch it, so our minds say it’s not tangible or can’t be real. But Lysa’s story teaches us that in these moments of needing to trust, we need to line up our thoughts with what God says. Yes! Take our eyes off the circumstance and look at our BIG God instead! Like 2 Corinthians 5:7 says:

“For we live by believing and not by seeing.” (NLT)

What happens when we stop looking at the circumstances and fix our eyes on God? We go for it! Because no matter the outcome, we know God will make good of it!

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines the word trust as: reliable, good and honest.

God IS trust!

Trustworthy
Reliable
Unchanging
Strong
Timely

Remember Bob, Lysa’s friend? He was an encourager. And we here at P31OBS are here to encourage YOU! So, like Bob said to Lysa, I want you to know:

“You are absolutely loved! Now when you are ready, jump.”

Will you make the leap with me today and declare out loud, “I trust you, Lord”?

Reflect and Respond:

Observe — Lysa’s safety on the ropes course was not based on her performance, but on her trust in God. Do you tend to put your trust in God or your own abilities?
Bible — Read Hebrews 13:6 and write it out. Then spend some time processing in your OBS Journal where you’re struggling to trust God.
Stretch — At the end of Chapter 5 (pg. 65 in the paperback), Lysa shared a powerful prayer with us, listing some relatable “I Am” declarations. Which one(s) do you most identify with? What truth(s) do you need to declare daily? Write them down in your journal. Let’s set the goal to pray these truths daily and see what God does!
